My T1D Journey |

Shaunacee Harris checking her Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), illustrating personal experience and support for those managing diabetes.

When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I quickly learned that managing my health was about so much more than just insulin. It was about my emotional health and mental state, too. I struggled with changing my eating habits and often felt defeated after doctor appointments. My family’s good intentions sometimes felt overwhelming, and there were days when I felt truly alone in this journey.

Through therapy, I discovered ways to cope with the emotional ups and downs, and now I help others navigate similar challenges. As someone living with Type 1 diabetes, I understand how overwhelming this journey can be. But I also know the power of finding your balance, both physically and mentally. I’m not just a therapist. I’m someone who truly gets it and is here to support you every step of the way.

The Parts of Diabetes You Don’t Always See

  • A Place to Be Honest

Talk openly about the frustration, fear, guilt, burnout, or exhaustion that can come with managing diabetes without having to minimize what you're feeling.

  • Adjusting to Life With Diabetes

Navigate changes in routines, relationships, food, treatment, and everyday life while finding approaches that feel realistic for you.

  • Changing the Way You Talk to Yourself

Challenge unhelpful thoughts around blood sugar, food, your body, or feeling like you're “failing” at diabetes management.

  • Managing Diabetes Burnout

Work through the mental exhaustion that can come from constantly monitoring, planning, adjusting, and thinking about your health.

Explore a space where your mental health is part of the conversation, too.
